Feckless Fatwa

"Muslim clerics in Spain issued what they called the world's first fatwa, or Islamic edict, against Osama bin Laden on Thursday, the first anniversary of the Madrid train bombings, calling him an apostate and urging others of their faith to denounce the al Qaeda leader."

Talk about mixed emotions... Should I be elated that at least one Muslim cleric finally had the stones to call a spade a spade? Or should I be distraught that this hasn't happened sooner, even in our own country. Quite frankly I never thought to check and see if something like this had been done before. I mean, not being my religion how am I to know where to check. Is there a central fatwa database, some sort of online bulletin board with all current fatwas and jihads listed. I assumed when so many Muslims made a point of standing up and decrying what happened in New York that they had actually done something other than just play lip service to the event. Apparently not.

I have to say I'm also disturbed that the catalyst for this fatwa is the Madrid train bombing alone. No mention seems to have been made of the events of 9/11. I can only assume this is because of some sort of clerical error and not in any way associated with the institutionalized vilification of the united states within Islam. I mean, it's a religion of love and peace after all. right?
